We recently succeeded in accident claim against Vale of Glamorgan council after our client was injured while visiting a local beach.

Our client was familiar with the beach in question, having visited it a number of times. Her accident occurred when she slipped on a ramp leading to the beach. At the top of the ramp, there were a number taps which were constantly in use by visitors who used the water to clean sand off their feet. Not only was the ramp wet, but it was also covered in algae, which made it extra slippery.

When she asked us for a case assessment we told her that the council were at fault and agreed to work on her claim on a no win, no fee basis.

However, the council rejected the injury claim, saying that there hadn’t been any accidents there previously. Nevertheless, the council did install a drainage system and arranged for the ramp to be jet washed to remove the algae.

Because the council refused to pay our client compensation the case went to court. The judge agreed with us that the council were at fault and said that she should recive compensation for her injuries. He did make some allowance for his finding that our client was not taking due care while walking down the ramp and reduced her compensation to reflect this.
